Homework 1

Homework 1

Write up what you found interesting about the East End Tale you have been given include:

A discovery you made while working on it and any questions that came up about rehearsing it and challenges you think you might have bringing it to life.

We have been given Tale 6 which is about a man in a pub waiting for his brother who works in the pub, he see's two people who look like mother and son. They have dark skin, strong chins, welll kept names , messy hair, wide noses,  and they were carribean. The warm tired women turns from the bar and hits him, spilling her drink over him. The man looks furious and the bar sees him and they all watch exspecting him to hit her. Then all of the sudden she puts her arm on him and says my round next and all is well.

The lesson before we had to develop on this tale and write about what we thought about one character, in my group we picked the narrator. We wrote that he was quite a hidden person that was a friendly but wasnt open to evryone. We had to go through a day in the life of him.

1st- the narrator left his hosue and trpped so someone caught him he brushed it of and walked of quiclky because we were showing he wasnt friendly.
2nd- He got on the train with loads of people around him, bumping into him and snezzing and coughing which shows he is quite uncomfortable
3rd- He is walking through a back alley to get to the pub and bumps into a group of cockney
girls who trys to chat him up , he doesnt respond and tries to get through them, this shows us that he isnt confident ladies man.
4th- He is in the pub on the phone and people are trying to talk to him , we did this because from the tale we can see people thinks he is unsociable.

I think this is an interesting tale because it tells us alot about different characters and it builds tension. The short sentences makes it easy to read and it is exciting. Weve discovered that the narrator is a big part of the tale and we find alot about his veiw and perspective on the things, we also learnt the atmosphear of the pub can be used in a really cool way because pubs are usually busy and loud. i think we might have challenges with amount of people in our group and using physical theatre in it because we might need more people in it.

B2.
We started off with exercises that one person has decided to do. This week we did amaias exercise which was splat we all got in a cirlce and the game is that we all use our hands as splat machines. Amaia stood in the middle and splat random people if you are splatted you have to drop and the people next to you have to splat eachother, these exercises are good because it getts everyone focused as we want to do these games.

This week we went through what tale we are doing and we talked about what were going to do with the play. In my group is amaia, gloria and logan. After this we got into pairs and went through the prologue which is about a taxi man picking up a customer in the epilogue he is talking to someone but it is only the taxi man talking so as we were in pairs we had to create a conversasion using a few lines but mainly dance moves that use sounds and body movement, we do this to portray the real east end using body language and sounds. Me and Amaia chose to stay in the taxi but everyline we used we moved around the space to exspress what we were talking about.

Next we watched a few of them, my favourite was robins and glorias becuase they used movements to make the peice flow easily. it was also quite funny.

Blog 1

New term subject-
East End Tales

Blog 1-

Today we started of our new topic which is a play called East End Trails. It is based in the East End .

First We all got our marks back for our blogs and our performance. I got a Distinction in my blog and my performance which im really happy with because i tried really hard and i put in the effort. I also enjoyed the topic because i have done it before and i loved inferring my characters feelings and emotions and then changing into a performance. Ive never worked on a detailed peice with just one other person so that was also interesting.

Next we started reading the script. I was quite suprised because it wasnt a usual script. There werent ovbious characters in it. As we read on what looked like poem paragraphs we realized there were different people with different stories. One that i liked was a part where three people described what The East End would be like if he or she was a human.

After this we talked about the play abit then we got up and did a physical exercise. We all walked around as ourself then thought about what a old lady would feel like crossing a busy street, we also practised acting cocky like a ganstar, an important buisness women and policeman. I think we did this so we could think about the characters and how they wqould feel and act also we looked at surrounding such as the countryside or a busy city i think we also did this to take into perspective that surroundings are a big part of our lives and the play is based in a very contraversual surrounding.

Following this we went back to the play and thought about the themes in the play. We got into groups and got a A3 peice of paper and some highlights. As a group we thought about some themes in the play and went into detail about them such as
-family problems such as relationship abuse - love - cant escape- hidden life - help
After this we chose 3 freeze frames in each group and one by one we all got up and froze in our pisitions after we were all frozen everyone around us thought of a caption to matcht it.
